Repower wins Scottish Wind Farm Contract

REpower AG Systems has won the first onshore wind farm contract tendered by EDF Energy Renewables.

The contract is the first award by the new 50:50 joint venture company between EDF Energy and EDF Energies Nouvelles.

The German wind turbine supplier will install and service the new project at Burnfoot Hill, located 5km north of Tillicoultry in Stirlingshire.

Thirteen wind turbines, specification REpower MM82, have been ordered and will be built in REpower’s custom designed factory in Germany. The 2MW turbines which stretch to 82 metres in diameter have been designed to excel in high wind speeds in exposed locations.

Once operational, the Burnfoot wind farm will have an output of 26 MW of energy, enough to power 14,500 homes and is predicted to save approximately 40,000 tonnes of CO² per annum.

Rick Eggleston, managing director of REpower UK, said: “Burnfoot Hill is an important win for REpower as it is the first onshore project for EDF Energy Renewables in the UK. We’re pleased that we can extend the very strong working relationship we had with EDF in the past into the new joint venture.”
